5 Bible Verses That Support Ministry Fundraising Campaigns

In the Book of Exodus, Chapter 25 God said the following to Moses:

“Tell the Israelites to bring me an offering. You are to receive the offering for me from everyone whose heart prompts them to give. These are the offerings you are to receive from them: gold, silver, and bronze; blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and fine linen; goat hair; ram skins dyed red and another type of durable leather; acacia wood; olive oil for the light; spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense; and onyx stones and other gems to be mounted on the ephod and breast piece…”

Even in the earliest of days, God supported fundraising events for the ministry. The Christian life is often divided by the “sacred” and as “secular”. Money is often viewed as being “secular”, but when used for a ministry, it may be viewed as “sacred”.

In fact, raising money for the Lord’s work, it is spiritual – much like that of giving a sermon, helping the needy, and visiting and praying over the sick. Biblical fundraising is considered to be a ministry – in and of itself. Here, we will share five scriptures in the Bible that support ministry fundraising campaigns:

  1. “Beloved, it is a faithful thing you do in all your efforts for these brothers, strangers as they are, who testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on their journey in a manner worthy of God. For they have gone out for the sake of the name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles. Therefore, we out to support people like these, that we may be fellow workers for the truth.” – 3 John 1: 5-8
  2. “Each one must give as he has decided in his heart – not reluctantly or under compulsion – for God loves a cheerful giver.” – 2 Corinthians 9:7
  3. “For the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle an ox when it treads out the grain”, and “The laborer deserves his wages”” – 1 Timothy 5:18
  4. “Do you not know that those who are employed in the temple service get their food from the temple, and those who serve at the altar share in the sacrificial offerings? In the same way, the Lord commanded that those who proclaim the gospel should get their living by the gospel.” – 1 Corinthians 9:13-14
  5. “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.” – Matthew 6:19-20

As you can see from the information contained in this brief post, the Lord supports financial support for ministry. If you have considered starting a fundraiser for your ministry and to expand God’s kingdom, it is in your heart for a reason.
