Bringing Tithes Into the Storehouse

Tithe“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse,

That there may be food in My house,

And try Me now in this”,

Says the Lord of hosts,

“If I will not open for you the windows of heaven

And pour out for you such blessing

That there will not be room enough to receive it.”

-Malachi 3:10

What you just read is God’s promise in regards to tithing that is listed in the Book of Malachi. A “tithe” is defined as a “tenth” in the Bible. It is in the Bible that God instructs his people to set aside a tenth (10%) of the earnings, the possessions that they own, and/or produce that they grow. This concept started in the Old Testament in Genesis 14 and Genesis 28 when Abraham and Jacob offered their tithes to God.

Several other Books of the Old Testament – Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, and 2 Chronicles – cover the command of the Israelites to provide a tithe from what they produced and were capable of earning throughout the year. Today, it is still considered appropriate to bring tithes within the storehouse.

What Does the New Testament Say About Tithing?

Many people today believe that the practice of tithing is a practice associated with the Old Testament and that it is no longer necessary; however, this is a common misconception.

In Matthew 23:23, tithing is mentioned. It states – in basic terms – that we are to pay a tithe, practice justice, have mercy, and have faith; otherwise, we are hypocrites. Also, Paul explains that those that preach God’s gospel should live from that gospel. That is made possible by tithing

Examples of Tithing

Generally speaking, tithing is one-tenth of a part of something, which is paid directly to a religious organization or ministry. When bringing tithes into a storehouse, you may pay it directly to your local church, a religious organization, apostolates, and/or to charities that support the ministry.

This 10% of your income is considered to be holy and is also considered to be God’s, though he does not need it. Tithing is the process of placing God as your top priority. By tithing, you showing God that he is number one in your life.

Tithing to Ministries Here on Storehouse

In 1 Corinthians 9:13-14, Paul explains that those that work in the ministry should be supported by that ministry. Here are his words:

“Don’t you realize that God told those working in his temple to take for their own needs some of the food brought there as gifts to him? And those who work at the altar of God get a share of the food that is brought by those offering it to the Lord. In the same way, the Lord has given orders that those who preach the Gospel should be supported by those who accept it.”
